Welcome to TIMEJ

"Time in Medieval Japan" (TIMEJ for short) is a research project of the University of Zurich, funded by the ERC with an Advanced Grant (No 741166). The project takes a new approach to historical articulations of the concept of time by examining symbolic representations and social regulations of time in various social spheres of medieval Japan. In this way it aims to contribute to a more refined philosophy of time as well as to illuminate an important aspect of the cultural history of Japan.
